Discover the magic of the festive season with a Ticket to Christmas at the Vale of Rheidol Railway.
Step aboard our ‘Santa Special’ one of our beautifully restored historic steam trains and begin your festive adventure through the heart of the Welsh countryside. Breathe in the nostalgic scent of coal and steam as your journey unfolds, with friendly Christmas elves interacting with passengers along the way, filling the carriage with festive fun, laughter and surprises.
Your 50-minute return steam train journey takes you to Capel Bangor and back before arriving at the Engine Shed Museum, where an enchanting one-hour immersive Christmas experience awaits.
Set amongst the impressive collection of historic steam locomotives, families will explore a series of magical interactive zones, each bringing the spirit of Christmas to life:
The Wish Station – write your wishes to hang on the Christmas tree.
The Toymakers Workshop – help Santa’s hardworking elves with hands-on Christmas activities.
Mrs Claus’ Living Room – enjoy a cosy festive setting filled with Christmas cheer and seasonal storytelling.
Santa’s Grotto – the magical final stop on your festive adventure.
As children complete activities throughout each zone, they’ll collect stamps in their Elf Passport, creating a keepsake of their festive adventure. Elf Passports and activity sheets are available in both Welsh and English, making the experience accessible for all young visitors.
There are plenty of magical moments along the way, including the chance for children to write their Christmas wish list and post it directly to Santa, ensuring their festive hopes are safely delivered to the North Pole.
The grand finale of your experience is a magical meeting with **Santa Claus himself** in his beautifully decorated grotto. Every child will receive a special Christmas gift from Santa, creating a treasured festive memory to take home. And because Christmas is for everyone, **there’s even a little festive surprise for the grown-ups too!**
With interactive characters, engaging activities, a nostalgic steam railway journey and unforgettable festive moments, **Ticket to Christmas** is a heartwarming Christmas experience designed to delight the whole family.

Ystafell Fyw Mrs Corn – mwynhewch leoliad Nadoligaidd clyd sy’n llawn hwyl ac adrodd straeon tymhorol.
Ogof Siôn Corn – yr arhosfan hudolus olaf ar eich antur Nadoligaidd.
Wrth i blant gwblhau gweithgareddau ym mhob parth, byddant yn casglu stampiau yn eu Pasbort Corach, gan greu atgof o’u hantur Nadoligaidd. Mae Pasbortau Corach a thaflenni gweithgareddau ar gael yn y Gymraeg a’r Saesneg, gan wneud y profiad yn hygyrch i bob ymwelydd ifanc.
Mae digon o eiliadau hudolus ar hyd y ffordd, gan gynnwys y cyfle i blant ysgrifennu eu rhestr ddymuniadau Nadolig a’u postio’n uniongyrchol at Siôn Corn, gan sicrhau bod eu gobeithion yn cael eu danfon yn ddiogel i Begwn y Gogledd.

Before you book
How long is the experience?
The Ticket to Christmas experience lasts approximately 1.5-2hours including train ride. Please allow additional time to collect tickets, and to visit our café and gift shop.
What does the experience include?
Your visit includes a train ride, interactive experience including magic passport and activity materials, a meeting with Santa and a Christmas gift for all passengers.
Is it suitable for all children?
The experience is designed for families and encourages children to take part in the story and activities. However, no child or adult is required to speak, sing or move if they do not wish to. Children can participate in ways that suit their age and individual needs. Materials will be provided in both Welsh and English.
What is the North Pole Magic Passport?
Each child receives a North Pole Magic Passport at the beginning of the experience. Four magical passport sections are completed during the train journey and museum experience, with the final Christmas Magic stamp awarded by Father Christmas in the grotto in exchange for a Christmas present.
Is the experience accessible?
The railway operates a fleet of historic railway carriages. Unfortunately it is not possible to carry passengers in wheelchairs, however we can make arrangements to stow and carry wheelchairs for passengers who are able to ambulate and board the train. To access the carriages, there is one step of 400mm between the platform and the carriage floor, extra steps are available if required and grab handles are provided adjacent to the majority of carriage doors. Carriages will be fully enclosed and heated.
Disabled parking is available with level access to all of the railway facilities including the Christmas Grotto inside our Engine Shed Museum.

Will the train be noisy?
This is a real steam railway experience, so families should expect the sights and sounds associated with a working historic railway, alongside the music and theatrical elements of the Christmas experience.
What should we wear?
Please dress warmly and appropriately for a winter railway adventure. Parts of the experience takes place outdoors on our railway platform, so we recommend bringing suitable coats and footwear.
Is there a café?
Our café is available for families who would like to enjoy refreshments during their visit. Your are welcome to take food and drinks on board the train.
Can we visit the shop?
Our railway shop is the perfect place to browse for Christmas gifts, souvenirs and festive treats. Please allow a little extra time if you would like to visit the shop before or after your experience.
