Enjoy a day out that combines a classic steam train journey with a guided walk in the Mid Wales countryside. Travel on the Vale of Rheidol Railway between Aberystwyth and Devil’s Bridge, then explore the surrounding hills on foot with a qualified local guide.
What the day involves
Your trip begins with a 12-mile heritage steam journey through the Rheidol Valley between Aberystwyth and Devil’s Bridge, departing Aberystwyth station at 10:30. Sit back as the train climbs into the Cambrian Mountains, with views of woodland, farmland and the stunning Rheidol Valley.
On arrival at Devil’s Bridge you will meet Mountain Leader Claire Goodman-Jones for a guided walk in the landscape surrounding the railway. Claire will lead you on a carefully planned route, sharing stories about the local area, wildlife and history as you go.
You will need suitable walking footwear and clothing for the weather, plus water and any refreshments you require.
Walks will take approximately 3 hours.
Following the walk you will then have some leisure time to enjoy before the return train back to Aberystwyth which departs at 15:45.
