MUSEUM COLLECTION LOCOMOTIVES
The Vale of Rheidol Railway is the owner of an extensive collection of historical narrow gauge locomotives and rolling stock. Many items were collected by our late Chairman Peter Rampton and have become known as “Collection X”
Many items from our collection are viewable in our Engine Shed Display Building with exhibits changing regularly.
Please note: The Engine Shed Museum Display will be closed from 13th October to 24th October 2025. This is to enable us to install Pete Waterman’s World Record model railway
Between 25th October and 2nd November 2025, access to the Engine Shed building will only be possible if you have a ticket to view the “Making Tracks” model railway. During this period many of the smaller exhibits normally on display will temporarily removed as the Making Tracks display will fill the length of the building!
The Engine Shed will re-open in 2026, date to be confirmed.
Some items in the collection are stored off site and not on public display. If you are visiting to see a particular locomotive, we recommend contacting us in advance to check whether it is on display.
