Information for Tour Planners and Group Travel Organisers
The Vale of Rheidol Railway operates regular services from mid March through to the beginning of November. With a journey time of one hour from one end of the line to the other and a round trip of approximately 2 ½ to 3 hours, it is the perfect day out for coach tours.
Whether you are a small club or society looking for a day out or a tour operator looking for steam train excursions as part of a repeat holiday programme, we can find an itinerary that works for you.
The steam train takes visitors on a journey through some of the most spectacular scenery in Wales, into the astounding Cambrian Mountains.
Please see the timetable page of the website for operating dates and departure times. If there are no services advertised on your chosen day, it may be possible to charter your own private train.
For tour groups and excursions we would recommend starting your journey from either Aberystwyth or Devil’s Bridge stations as both have free parking for coaches. You can do either a single journey or a return journey. If you are a group leader or group travel organiser and require assistance planning an itinerary, please telephone our Booking Office on 01970 625819 and one of our staff will be able to discuss the various options with you.

Finding the railway is easy. Follow the brown tourism signs with train symbols.
At Aberystwyth, avoid signs for the mainline railway station as this is separate to us.
On arrival at Aberystwyth, coaches can use our dedicated car park in Park Avenue, SY23 1PG. Coaches can remain parked there after unloading and there is no charge to use this facility. There is additional parking nearby in the Ceredigion County Council operated Coach Park on Boulevard St Brieuc however a charge may apply.
On arrival at Devil’s Bridge, SY23 3JL, we recommend coaches reverse into the station yard where you can unload your passengers. Whilst a small charge applies for cars, there is no charge for coaches to park.
Arrival – We advise all parties to arrive no later than 30 minutes before train departure time. Organisers/couriers should obtain their group ticket before boarding the train and railway staff will direct passengers to the reserved seats. These will be indicated by a reservation board on the side of the carriage. The party must have made payment before the train departs or travel may be denied.
-
Both Aberystwyth and Devil’s Bridge stations have shops stocking a range of souvenirs, books and gifts including our popular postcards (and stamps), fridge magnets and tea towels. Aberystwyth shop carries a range of confectionery and drinks. Please contact the booking office for details.

The railway will do all it can to ensure that the trains run as advertised. On rare occasions, steam locomotives may be replaced by diesel locomotives and train timings adjusted. Our line controller will liaise with group organisers to ensure they are kept informed of the circumstances.
