The Vale of Rheidol Railway has taken centre stage on Welsh television once again — this time as part of ITV Wales’ Coast & Country programme, which celebrates the people, places, and natural beauty of Wales.

A few weeks ago, presenter Hamish and the Coast & Country crew visited Aberystwyth to explore the railway and its fascinating history. Joined by Ioan Lord, local historian and member of the railway team, the programme begins with a tour of our Vale of Rheidol Railway Museum, where Ioan introduces some of the unique exhibits that tell the story of the line’s 120-year heritage.

The journey then continues up the Rheidol Valley, as Ioan points out some of the hidden traces of the area’s industrial past — from the old mines and quarries to the communities once served by the railway. Along the way, the cameras capture the line’s spectacular views as the train climbs from the coast at Aberystwyth to the mountains and waterfalls of Devil’s Bridge.

The feature concludes with Hamish exploring Devil’s Bridge itself — one of Wales’ most iconic beauty spots — and reflecting on how the Vale of Rheidol Railway connects visitors to the history and landscapes of Mid Wales in a truly unforgettable way.

The programme offers a wonderful showcase for both the railway and the region, and we’re thrilled to see the story of the Rheidol Valley shared with such a wide audience.
